There’s something magical about spring in Southern California. The rolling hills come alive with blooming wildflowers, soft golden grasses, and warm light that wraps everything in a glow. For this engagement session , we ventured out into the hills at midday — a time many photographers avoid — but I couldn’t resist the bold light and playful shadows it created. It turned out to be the perfect choice for this fun, nature-loving couple.
Midday light brought a fresh and vibrant energy to this engagement session. The sun created striking contrast and dappled patterns as it filtered through the tall grass and wildflowers. Rather than soft and moody, these images are joyful, bold, and full of life — just like the couple. We laughed, explored, and let the natural landscape lead the way.
Southern California offers so many incredible backdrops, but springtime in the hills might be one of my favorites. If you’re dreaming of engagement photos that feel alive, unposed, and rooted in nature, I highly recommend considering this season and setting. You don’t need a dramatic mountain or ocean view — sometimes the simplest scenes create the most meaningful moments.
